چکیده

In 2004, a study was conducted in the ‘Cutfield’ or Britain Farm at the Cotton Branch Experiment Station with five total N-fertilizer rates (0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 lb N/acre) on ‘FiberMax 960’ (FM 960) cotton (Mozaffari et al., 2005). The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with 5 treatments and 4 replications, resulting in 20 plots. Each plot was approximately 115 ft long and 25 ft wide allowing for eight rows of cotton with 38-inch wide rows. Cotton was planted on 22 May and managed following standard cultural practices for eastern Arkansas. Seedlings emerged on 29 May and first bloom occurred on 21 July. Cotton was harvested with a combine equipped with an AgLeader PF 3000 Yield Monitor on 12 November. Nitrogen fertilizer was applied in split applications with no pre-plant application. The first N application was made on 14 July, which included rates of 0, 30, and 60 lb N/acre. Total N rates of 90 and 120 lb N/ acre received only 60 lb N/acre nitrogen on 14 July. On 4 August, the 90 and 120 lb N/acre rates received a second application of 30 and 60 lb N/acre, respectively. Canopy reflectance of cotton was measured on 17 and 27 July. Since the data were collected before the second application of N, only 3 rates of N were used for data analysis. Canopy reflectance was measured with a hand-held StellarNet EPP2000-NIR-InGaAs-25 BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND RESEARCH PROBLEM

Canopy reflectance in cotton for growth assessment and lint yield prediction

A field experiment was conducted in 2001–2002 to investigate relationships between canopy spectral reflectance and leaf area index (LAI), aboveground biomass (ABM), and lint yield of irrigated cotton across four N fertilizer rates of 0, 56, 112, and 168 kg N ha−1. These N rates were used to generate a wide range of difference in canopy structure and lint yield. Measurements of canopy reflectanc...

Spectrum Characteristics of Cotton Canopy Infected with Verticillium Wilt and Inversion of Severity Level

Verticillium wilt of cotton is one of the diseases of cotton with extensive occurrence and maximal harming in our country even in the world .Hyper spectrum remote sensing with the fine spectrum information has becoming the efficient method to monitor the Verticillium wilt of cotton. The research was conducted in Xinjiang, the largest cotton plant region of China. The paper used data which was c...

Use of Ground-Based Canopy Reflectance to Determine Radiation Capture, Nitrogen and Water Status, and Final Yield in Wheat

Spectral reflectance of plant canopies provides an accurate indication of ground cover fraction, which is highly correlated with radiation capture. If nutrients and water do not limit growth, radiation capture is highly correlated with daily growth rate and ultimate yield. However, if nutrients and water limit growth, none of the common spectral indices are able to separate a more developed, st...

Effects of cell number and cell size on petiole length variation in a stoloniferous herb.

In stoloniferous species, the length of petioles is of pivotal importance because it determines the position of leaf blades within the canopy. From a mechanistic perspective, two developmental processes, cell division and cell elongation, are responsible for the length of a given petiole. This study aimed at quantifying the relative contributions of cell division and cell elongation to genotypi...

Development of sensor systems for precision agriculture in cotton

Precision agriculture (PA) is an information-based technology, using detailed information within an agricultural field to optimize production inputs on a spatially variable basis, maximize farm profit, and minimize environmental impact. Information collection and processing plays a very important role in PA. In recent years PA technologies have been gradually adopted in cotton production. Sever...
